Karen juga bilang dirinya punya teman yang melahirkan di sebuah kolam di rumahnya. Sementara dia melahirkan di sebuah ranjang rumah sakit setelah mendapat anestesi epidural. Meski berbeda tempat dan cara melahirkan, tapi menurut Karen, semuanya adalah ibu yang hebat.
"Lalu apakah ibu di rumah lebih baik dari ibu bekerja? Nggak. Apakah ibu bekerja lebih baik dari ibu di rumah? Nggak," imbuh Karen.
Mungkin kita pernah iri sama teman kita yang bisa membawa anak-anaknya liburan ke tempat-tempat seru dan keren. Tapi kata Karen, bukan berarti teman kita jadi ibu yang lebih baik dari yang lain. Pun jika kita sering membawa anak kita main ke taman, juga bukan berarti kita jadi lebih hebat dari ibu yang lain.
"Apakah ibu yang baik membiarkan anak-anaknya menonton televisi? Ya. Membiarkan mereka main video game? Ya. Tapi gimana kalau ada ibu yang tidak mengizinkan anaknya nonton televisi dan main video game? Ya, nggak apa-apa juga. Ini pilihan. Anda adalah ibunya dan Anda yang terbaik bagi mereka," papar Karen.
