Ada kisah menarik dari Mayjen Purn Eddie M Nalapraya. Mengawali karir sebagai prajurit rendahan, hingga akhirnya bisa pensiun dengan pangkat Mayor Jenderal. Setelah itu sempat menjadi Wakil Gubernur DKI Jakarta tahun 1984-1987. Tentu sebuah hal yang langka dari dulu hingga sekarang.

Pria yang dikenal dekat dengan kalangan ulama dan aktivis di Jakarta ini mengungkap beberapa kali menolak uang suap dan uang haram yang ditawarkan padanya. Jika seandainya diambil, mungkin Eddie sudah berhadapan dengan hukum dan habis karirnya.

Kisah ini ditulis dalam buku Memoar Eddie M Nalapraya, Jenderal Tanpa Angkatan yang ditulis Ramadhan KH dan kawan-kawan. Buku ini diterbitkan Zigzag Creative tahun 2010. 

Saat menjabat Kepala Staf Kodam Jaya di tahun 1980 awal, Brigjen Eddie sempat didatangi anak buahnya di Kodam. Si perwira tiba-tiba menyerahkan uang yang jumlahnya kala itu cukup untuk membeli tiga buah mobil mercy keluaran terbaru. Mungkin kalau dinilai sekarang di atas Rp 1 miliar.

"Ini uang apa? Asalnya dari mana?" kata Eddie terkejut.

"Oh ini dana taktis, Pak. Dari hasil ruislag (tukar guling tanah) di Jembatan Merah, untuk disimpan oleh Bapak," kata si perwira.

"Sudah lapor Panglima Kodam belum?" balas Eddie lagi.

Si perwira menggeleng. Eddie memintanya lapor Panglima Kodam saja lebih dulu.

Sejak saat itu dia tak tahu lagi kelanjutan soal uang tersebut. Eddie juga tak pernah lagi mengingat-ingatnya lagi.

Ternyata beberapa tahun kemudian kasus tukar guling tanah itu mencuat dan bikin geger Kodam Jaya. Kepala Staf TNI AD meminta semua yang terlibat diperiksa. Sebagian ada yang diseret ke pengadilan militer dan harus mengakhiri karir militernya. Kasad meminta dengan tegas, siapa pun yang pernah menerima uang itu harus dikembalikan.

Eddie bersyukur dulu tak tergiur menerima uang tersebut. Walau begitu tetap ada suara sumbang yang menuduh dirinya terlibat.

"Dia kan Kasdam (kepala staf Kodam, orang kedua di Kodam Jaya) masak tidak terlibat," demikian suara-suara terdengar.

Tudingan itu terbantahkan dengan surat kenaikan pangkat menjadi Mayor Jenderal dari Mabes TNI. Eddie malah mendapat promosi menjadi jenderal bintang dua. Suatu hal yang mustahil terjadi seandainya hasil pemeriksaan menyebut dirinya terlibat kasus korupsi itu.

Kasus seperti ini bukan hanya sekali. Kelak saat menjabat Wakil Gubernur DKI Jakarta, Eddie pun hendak disuap oleh para pengusaha. Untungnya dia tak tergiur.

Dia rajin mengaji pada para ulama. Eddie selalu diingatkan supaya lurus memegang amanah.
